West Yorkshire Cycling is a practical, independent resource focused on improving road safety for everyone in the region — cyclists, drivers, and all other road users.
We document real-world interactions between cyclists and motor vehicles using helmet‑cam footage submitted to West Yorkshire Police through Operation Snap. Only incidents where police have taken action — most commonly a driver improvement or educational course — are published. This ensures every video is a verified case with a clear outcome, not an unproven complaint.
Our key tools include:
- The Incident Location Map — showing where close passes and dangerous overtakes occur across West Yorkshire, from busy urban corridors to suburban streets and open‑visibility routes. Incidents are categorised by vehicle type to highlight genuine patterns in driver behaviour.
- Detailed incident statistics — including the financial impact on drivers, such as course fees and penalties.
- A live weather and ride‑conditions service — providing cycling‑specific hazard warnings (wind gusts, heavy rain, low visibility and more) using a familiar motorway wig‑wag style for quick, glanceable alerts.
- A growing News section — covering infrastructure changes, media analysis, shared‑path discussions, and positive cycling stories from Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield.
We believe safer roads come from clear evidence, accurate Highway Code guidance — particularly Rules 61 and 163 — and practical information that helps people ride and drive more safely. We avoid drama, naming individuals, or inflammatory language. Our focus is education, transparency, and supporting a safer environment for all road users in West Yorkshire.
For commuters, leisure riders, and anyone interested in local road‑safety data, West Yorkshire Cycling provides reliable, useful information without the noise.
